Sharon Marie (O'Connor) Gulau Obituary
Sharon Marie (O'Connor) Gulau was born April 3, 1939 in Detroit, the ninth of ten children to Francis B. O'Connor and Clara Groen O'Connor. She had four older sisters and four older brothers (Geraldine, Jacqueline, Richard, Alice, Phyllis, Francis, Timothy, and Dennis) and one younger sister (Kathie).  She graduated from Saint Mary of Redford High School in Detroit and entered the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1956, where her two older sisters were already sisters of the Holy Cross.  She received her bachelors in music education from Saint Mary's College and was assigned to her first teaching mission at Saint Mary of the Lake, Michigan City, Ind. 
She continued her teaching career at various missions in the Midwest until she went to Bangladesh in 1968 where her sister, Sister Frances Bernard was also missioned.  In 1969, she left Holy Cross and returned to her parents' home in Howell, Mich., and began working as a paralegal. 
In 1974, she married John Gulau, a widower with three sons William, James and Donald.  They made their home in Plymouth, Mich. They retired to Indian River until John's death in 2002. 
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and three older siblings, Sister Anna Clare "Geraldine", CSC, Jacqueline Fritz and Richard O'Connor.  Sharon was an accomplished organist, pianist and singer. 
She played the organ and sang in her church choir until she became ill in 2014. She was a member at Christ Our King Lutheran Church in Saline, where she also sang in the choir. She will be dearly missed by her step-sons, daughter-in law, Cathy (Jim) Gulau, grandchildren Kyle, Natalie, Stephen, Elizabeth and Karl. Several friends, Angie and Bob Grove, Jack Robinson and many others as well as her remaining siblings, nieces, and nephews will also miss her.
Visitation was held Wednesday, February 14, 20188 from 3 - 8 p.m. at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan. Funeral Service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018 at Christ Our King Lutheran Church.
Burial will be at Catholic Shrine Cemetery, 6260 S. Straits Hwy., Indian River, MI 49749 on May 26, 2018 at 2 p.m. next to her husband. www.ochalekstark.com
