Campbell, Eleanore - Chicago  
Eleanore (Elly) Briggs Campbell, 93, passed away on February 7, 2015, in Palm City, FL. Elly was born in Newark,New Jersey, A long time resident of Glenview, Elly graduated from New Trier High School and attended Northwestern University. Elly was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, an avid reader and golfer. She was a former employee and supporter of the Glenview Public Library. Elly and her husband Robert were long time members of Sunset Ridge Country Club. Elly was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Alberta Briggs, her husband of 64 years, Robert S. Campbell, her daughter, Allison, and her brother Phillip Briggs. Elly is survived by her two sons, Steve (Adra) and Chris (Tiffany), six grandsons, Robert (Aimy), Briggs, Adam (Mara), William, Grant, and Peter and one great-granddaughter, Anna. Carlson, Valerie - Arlington Heights  
Valerie Carlson, 79, of Libertyville, passed away February 22, 2015. Valerie was born in 1935 in Bristol, England. Raised in Cheltenham, in the Cotswolds. She attended the Rotunda School for Girls, and later, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Valerie married Robert Carlson, an officer in the U. S. Air force, in 1956. Valerie had her first child, Walter (Caroline) Carlson in England in 1957. She moved to Robert's hometown of Libertyville in 1958. Valerie had two daughters, Suzanne (Dwayne) Liermann and Diana Carlson, and one granddaughter, Lily Liermann. Valerie was an active member of the Village Players for many years. Valerie and her friend, Dyanne Earley wrote and co-directed the first six plays which started Lincolnshire Marriott's Theater for Young Audiences. Valerie worked for 23 years as Conference Director at Lake Forest College. She was also a public speaking consultant for Abbott Laboratories. Valerie became a U.S citizen on Sept. 8, 2000. After her retirement, Valerie found great pleasure and satisfaction in restoring the Sunken Garden at Butler Lake Park. Valerie was an animal lover. Many of the pets she had over her lifetime had been stray or unwanted animals and she gave those animals a loving home. A donation, to the Society of St. Francis, 12300 116th Street, Kenosha, WI 53143 or an animal organization of your choice would be greatly appreciated. A memorial service in the Sunken Garden and a luncheon for family and friends will be held in the spring.

Carpentier, Pierre - Chicago  
Dr. Pierre Jean Carpentier, age 84, passed away at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, Illinois, February 17, 2015. Born October 13, 1930 in Courbevoie, France to Louis and Amelie Carpentier, Pierre lost his father at the battle of Dunkirk in 1940 when he was just 10 years old. Pierre attended the Lycée Carnot, and obtained medical degrees from the Faculté de Medecine in Paris, France and as a Fulbright scholar in the US from Georgetown and George Washington University. Pierre married Laura "Lee" Ellen Eastman in 1968 in Paris where they lived until 1983 when they moved to Lake Forest, Illinois. He practiced internal medicine at the American Hospital in Paris, among other institutions, but spent most of his career in pharmaceutical research in France and the US. Pierre specialized in pulmonary disease and worked at Laboratoires Servier, Schering, and finally Abbott Laboratories where he was Director of Clinical Research for Southeast Asia and the Middle East, developing several key asthma drugs, until his retirement in 1997. He was active in the French community in Chicago, attended weekly Grand Rounds at the Chicago Medical School in North Chicago and continued to travel to France with his wife every summer until recently. Pierre was passionate about medicine, his homeland, adored his wife and daughter, and having overcome significant adversity as a child and young man, had an inimitable "joie de vivre", achieving success on both professional and personal fronts. He and his wife of 46 years were very loving parents and grandparents who will be greatly missed. Pierre was predeceased by his wife Lee, his sister Huguette Bonnet, and his nephew and godson Louis Bonnet. Survivors include his daughter Laure Cousineau, son-in-law Matthew Cousineau, their three children Charlotte, Sophie and Sebastien; his brother-in-law Henry Bonnet; niece Nathalie Bonnet and nephew Simon Bonnet. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 7, at St. Mary's Church, 175 E Illinois Rd, Lake Forest, Illinois. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the reception at The Market House restaurant immediately following the mass.

Cheney, Paul - Sycamore, Il  
Paul Edward Cheney, 69, of Sycamore, IL (formerly of Sugar Grove, IL and Sandwich, IL) passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a long and brave fight to recover from a brain aneurysm. Paul was born in 1945 in Chicago. He graduated from Fenger High School in 1963. From there he went to work at Halsey Stuart Investment Bank. During this time he joined the United States Marine Corps Reserves. Paul trained as a helicopter crew chief and door gunner, and made the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He was very proud to have served his country. Paul married Rhonda in 1974. They moved to Sugar Grove in 1976, where he became the Vice President for the Bank of Sugar Grove. Paul was a banker for more than 25 years and was a fixture in the Sugar Grove community for many years. Paul and Rhonda retired to Sandwich, IL and spent winters in Fort Myers, FL. Paul is survived by Rhonda, his wife of 41 years; his daughter, Anne (Jered) Hardy of Genoa; his son, Mike (Cindy) Cheney of Oswego; his grandchildren, John Hardy, Ava Hardy, Audrey Cheney and Elliot Cheney; two sisters, Carol (Don) Boomstra of Dyer, IN. and Nancy (John) Schaddelee of Tinley Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mabel Cheney. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 1st from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore.
