Garre III, Samuel - Barrington  
Samuel "Sam" Garre III, 80, of Barrington, died, Thursday, July 30, 2015, in Barrington. He was born on May 18, 1935, to Samuel Jr. and Barbara Garre, in New Rochelle, New York and grew up spending his summers at his family home on Cape Cod. Sam received his Bachelor's degree from Franklin Marshall College in 1957, and went on to receive his Master's degree from the University of Michigan in 1958. Sam worked for 30 years with US Gypsum, and finished his career with 10 years at Chemical Waste Management. He was a devoted husband and father. He was a volunteer and community service member for many organizations, including being a Leader of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Indian Guides, a Trustee for the Elgin Academy (EA Distinguished Service Medal), a Chairperson for the first fundraising committee for Hospice of Northeastern Illinois (now JourneyCare), and a member of Barrington's Community Action 220 Committee. Sam was a member of the Eastward Ho! Country Club in Chatham, MA, Barrington Hills Country Club, Society of the Cincinnati, Society of the Colonial Wars, and the Mayflower Society. Among Sam's passions in life, he especially loved golf, reading history and biographies, making wooden nautical flagpoles, and spending time with family. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Maryjo (nee Simjian) Garre; children, Samuel Garre IV, Gregory George (Lorane Hebert) Garre, and Karen Garre (Aaron) Burmeister; grandchildren, Samantha and William Burmeister, and Natalie and Sawyer Garre; two nieces, one nephew and five cousins. Sam also leaves behind his beloved Briard, Brewster. He was preceded in death by his brother, David C. (Patricia) Garre, and their parents. Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 5, at Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington Hills, IL 60010. Burial will be held privately at Union Cemetery, Chatham, Massachusetts. Shirley Gillis, nee Pime, age 94. Gliemi, Alfred - Lake Forest  
Alfred A. Gliemi, 93, of Lake Forest, Illinois, formerly of Deerfield, Illinois passed away July 28, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lorraine, and his three children, Gregory (Anna) Gliemi, Tainan, Taiwan, Cynthia (Richard) Slocum, Geneva, Illinois, and Allison (Thomas) Cath of Valparaiso, Indiana. In addition, Alfred was adored by his grandchildren, Meredith Slocum Starnes (Justin), John Slocum, Julia Slocum, James Cath, William Cath, David Cath, and two great- grandsons. He is survived by his two sisters, Marie Porter and Patricia Walsh. He was preceded in death by his parents Pasquale and Vitale Glielmi, and his siblings: Lawrence, Angela, Yolanda, and Josephine. Alfred was a recognized leader in the insurance industry. He served as a captain in the army during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star and a Battlefield Commission for his bravery. Alfred also shared his time and talents with numerous organizations during his lifetime. Interment will be private and a memorial service will be held at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 400 E. Marjorie Ann Gondeck, 88, Long Beach, Indiana, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 1:14 pm in her home. Guderley, George - Inverness  
George W. Guderley, Major, USAF-Retired, 92, passed away at his home on July 31, 2015. A resident of Inverness, Illinois he was a volunteer at the USAF Office of retiree Activities, at O'Hare Air Force Reserve Station since 1988. He served on active duty during World War II, The Korean Conflict and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Major Guderley was a graduate of the USAF Squadron Officer's School, the Reserve Officer's resident Command and Staff College and the Civil Engineering School at the at the Air University. He graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago and attended the Illinois Institute of Technology. He first entered the Air Force in 1942, served as B-17 bomber crew member, later in the Research and Development Command and finally as a Civil Engineering Squadron Commander and Staff Officer. He retired in civilian life as Vice President of CEMCON, Ltd., a regional consulting engineering firm; prior to that he retired from public service as the Executive Director, Illinois Toll Highway Authority, and earlier as the Chief Engineer of Administration of the Cook County Highway Department. He authored technical papers and presented them at international computer conferences on the subjects of hydraulics, hydrology and storm sewer and pumping station design for major expressway projects. Guderley's civic activities include ten years on the Village Board of Trustees of the Village of Inverness, where he represented the Village on the Northwest Suburban Council of Governments; member of the Executive Board of the Northwest Suburban Boy Scout Council; Technical Advisor to the Flood Control and Pure Water Commission; member Transportation Committee, Chicago Association of Commerce and Industry; Chairman of both the Engineering Design Committee and the Administration Committee, International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association; Chairman of the Board, Illinois Transportation Council; President, Lake Michigan Chapter, Society of American Military Engineers; President, Chicago Chapter, Reserve Officer's Association; member American Ex- Prisoners of War Association; and was the "Volunteer of the Year" at the USAF Office of Retiree Activities at O'Hare Air Force Station. He also authored articles for the USAF Museum's "Friends Journal", and was an advisor to the Museum on POW affairs. His military decorations included the Purple Heart Medal, the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the POW Medal, the European-Middle East Theater Ribbon with five battle stars, and eight other awards. Major Guderley is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Susan (Peter Layer) Guderley and George (Laura) Guderley III; grandchildren, Paul, Catherine, Steven and Philip; sister, Lois (Norman) Remer; niece, Janice (Jim) Scandlin; and nephews, Jim (Donna) Remer and John (Thayne Erney) Pearson. Graveside services will be held Friday, August 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fort Sheridan Post Cemetery, Highwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to your favorite charity.
