Keegan Korn, Marie - Chicago  
Marie T. Keegan Korn nee Flynn, age 89, passed away January 27, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Keegan and the late Bernard M. Korn; loving mother of the late Thomas (Eileen) Keegan, Dedrie (Robert) Moloney, Mary Anne (Philip) Chapleau, Timothy (Judith) Keegan, Leonard (Kathy) Korn, Charlotte Schriner, Cecilia (Ed) Schaefges and Roger Korn; cherished grandmother of 27; adored great-grandmother of 29; fond sister of the late John (the late Lois) Flynn and Patricia (the late Lawrence) Keegan. A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, January 31st, from 9:30 am until the time of the memorial Mass 10:30 am, at Immaculate Conception Church, 7211 W. Talcott Ave., Chicago. Interment private. Koehler Ph.D., Dr. Michael D. - Lake Bluff  
Koehler, Ph.D., Dr. Michael D. Dr. Michael D. Koehler Ph.D. passed away at home in Minocqua, WI on January 21, 2015 from congestive heart failure. Mike was born May 9, 1938 in Chicago, the grandson of Jim Thorpe, one of America's greatest athletes. He graduated from Mount Carmel High School, the University of Nebraska, and earned his Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Utah. He was a teacher, counselor, football coach, school and district administrator at Deerfield High School for 31 years. Mike was also an adjunct professor of educational administration at Northeastern Illinois University's graduate school for 23 years, had 17 books published as well as scores of educational articles. The source of energy and inspiration for Mike's lifelong work was his desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Mike Koehler is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Pat; daughters, Kathleen (Dwight) Elmendorf, Carrie (Bruce, deceased) Hanson, Peggy (David) Dietrich; and three grandchildren, Eric and Cassie Hanson, Michael Dietrich. Funeral services were held on January 28th in Minocqua, WI. The family requests donations be sent to The American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Koffel, Grace M. - Libertyville  
Koffel, Grace M. Of Libertyville, passed away on January 21, 2015, four days prior to her 101st birthday, at the Westmoreland Home in Lake Forest, IL. Grace was a lifelong resident of the Libertyville area and member of St. Joseph's Church. She was born and lived until after she began raising her family in Rondout, IL. In 1952 she moved with her young family into the home that she and her husband built in Green Oaks. She lived in her family home for more than sixty years. She lived her last year and a half as a resident of the Westmoreland Home. She worked for many years at Grandy Cleaners in Libertyville and later at Robertson's Clothing Store in Lake Forest. Her family shared her pride in her skills as a seamstress. Grace was a long-time volunteer for the Condell Hospital Auxiliary. She was a world traveler. She traveled many times throughout America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, Africa and Southeast Asia with her long-time friend, Jean Denley. She went on an African Safari, rode an elephant in Kenya, and parasailed in the Caribbean while in her eighties. She especially enjoyed schmoozing with new friends on cruise ships throughout the world. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She loved practical jokes. Her smile and sense of humor are her legacy. Grace is survived by her children, Betty Ann (Jim) Moran and John (Lynn) Koffel; her grandchildren, Margaret (Jeff) Kiszonas, Kristi (Peter) Nevin, Jim (Elizabeth Bennett) Moran III; six great-grandchildren who were the light of her life; and many nieces and nephews and their children. Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne A. Koffel; her parents, Vito and Marianna Volino; her brothers, Mike, Jerry, Sam and Frank Volino; her daughter-in-law, Susan Koffel; and two infant grandchildren. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, February 2 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 121 E. Maple Ave., Libertyville. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 1 from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at McMurrough Funeral Chapel, 101 Park Place (Rt 176, 1 block East of Milwaukee Ave.), Libertyville. Lanoff, Dr. Gilbert - Lincolnwood  
Dr. Gilbert Lanoff was born July 21, 1923 at the American Hospital in Chicago, now called Thorek Hospital. He grew up on the Near North Side and went to LeMoyne Grammar School, then Lake View High School. He graduated from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Chemistry, did research at Purdue University on anti-malarial drugs, and then obtained his M.D. from the University of Illinois School of Medicine in 1948. He spent the next five years at Cook County Hospital performing a two year rotating internship and a two year residency in Pediatrics and a one year fellowship in Allergy. He was in private practice in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood before serving two years in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes where he was in the department of Pediatrics and head of the Allergy clinic. He was certified in Pediatric Allergy in 1958 and was appointed head of the Department of Allergy at Children's Memorial Hospital where he served voluntarily for almost 20 years until 1978. He also maintained a flourishing private practice in Waukegan and Chicago. He published several research papers and served on the Board of the American College of Allergy. He continued practicing medicine until the age of 87. He met his lovely wife Shirley, noted yoga and folk dancing teacher, at Northwestern in 1945. They shared 64 beautiful years of marriage. He served as President of Hillel Torah Day School where the middle school was named after him. He also served as President of Ida Crown Academy as well as Congregation Yehuda Moshe for many years. He had been Scholarship Chairman of Hebrew Theological College for many years and was on the Board of Directors. He leaves behind his wife Shirley (nee Stein), three children, Vicki (Dr. Mark) Ephron, Dawn (Dr. Sendy) Weiss, and Dr. Martin (Carolyn) Lanoff. He was the cherished grandfather of Chaya (Aron) Troppe, Raanan (Henny) Ephron, Moshe Ephron, Joseph Weiss, Rebecca (John) Howard, Ethan, Dylan, and Justin Lanoff, and the late Ruthie Ephron. He was the proud great-grandfather of seven. Funeral services were held. LaShorne, Marian - Glenview  
LaShorne, Marian Marian LaShorne passed away peacefully on January 14 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She remained happy and energetic to the end. She was born April 7, 1926 in Davenport, IA to Harold and Sylvia Pollitz. After her mother passed Harold married Bee Buse who was a beloved stepmother. Marian was a loving wife of 64 years and best friend to her husband, John. They met by chance in Cedar Rapids. They married and spent their early years near her parents in Cedar Rapids and had three children, Chris, Barbara and Julie. Marian and John next moved to Lexington, KY, then to Northbrook, IL where they have lived for the last 47 years. Marian and John were constant companions entertaining and traveling with friends. They shared a love of dancing, golfing, bowling, cross wording and raising their children. She was an excellent cook, always looking for a new recipe to try that no one turned down. The anticipated event of the year was her incredible assortment of Christmas cookies. She was the kindest, generous, and the sweetest person in the world to those around her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Sylvia; stepmother, Bee; and sister, Ellen (Roger) Larson. She is survived by her loving husband, John; and sister, Sally (John) Cunningham; children, Chris (Ellen) La Shorne, Barbara La Shorne, and Julie Meyer; grandchildren, Hayden, Emily, Daniel, Ryan, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Alexander; and great-grandchildren, Avery, Finley, Desmond, and Hailey. Visitation and funeral will be Friday, January 30, 2015 at N.H. Loving father of JoAnn Lazuka, Robert Lazuka, Lynn (Z. Stan) Banasik, Gus Lazuka, Dorothy Smith, Rosanne (Alan) Covey, Thomas Lazuka, Diane (Thomas) Chakos and Daniel (Diane) Lazuka; grandpa to Sophie, Gabe, Sheryl, Laura, Zack, Billy, Chris, Steve, Greg, Nick, Glenn, Christina, Jessica, Michael, Jacquelyn, Michael, Jeffrey and Natalie; great-grandpa to George, Audrey, Morgan, Ava, Andrew, Lucas and Maya; dear brother of Dorothy Bellos and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Ed was a man who worked hard all his life. First on the farm, then in the Army Air Corps during WWII, also 24 years at Perfection Gear in Harvey and retiring from Sherwin-Williams in 1985. He also played hard, fishing, bowling and softball in his younger years, but his true love was polka dancing which he did well into his 80's. He took pride in his home but was proudest of his family, whose pictures filled every open space there. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army would be appreciated for a kindness our dad received many years ago.
