Lester W. Abel, Jr., age 79, of Thornton, IL passed away Monday, March 23, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Ann Abel, nee Hernandez. Dear father of Mary Jo Abel, Carol L. Abel, Richard A. (Debra) Abel, Barbara Ann (Dale) Pauly, Edward W. (Janice) Abel, Julie (Matthew Piotrowski) Abel. Devoted grandfather of eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Harriet White Ahstrom, age 87 of Sarasota and formerly of Oak Park and River Forest; beloved wife of 65 years of James P. Ahstrom Jr., M.D.; loving mother of James David (Margaret) Ahstrom of Wilton, CT. and Jill Daly (Robert A.) Bown of Flourtown, PA.; cherished grandmother of Emily and Sarah Ahstrom, Christopher, Scott and Jennifer Bown; dear daughter of Mildred and Cleveland White; devoted sister of Patricia Schmidt and Mary B. Campbell. Harriet was born in Buffalo, NY on June 4, 1927. She graduated from OPRF High School in 1945 and graduated from Northwestern University in 1949 where she majored in bacteriology and was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. On August 3, 1949 she married James P. Ahstrom Jr., and lived in Oak Park, IL, San Leandro, CA, River Forest, IL and Oak Brook, IL before moving to Sarasota, FL. in 2013. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 6th at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of River Forest, 7551 Quick Ave., River Forest, IL. Private Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery. Almer, Raymond - Vero Beach  
August 20, 1940-March 25, 2015 He was our Northstar. Raymond died after an exhausting battle with Multiple Systems Atrophy, which robbed him of everything but his spirit. He was born in Chicago to David and Marie Almer, who predecease him. Raymond taught psychology and child development for 30 years in the City Colleges of Chicago. He also managed his family's real estate business. Raymond is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 48 years, Mary, his four children, Elisabeth (Craig) Johnson; Ellen (Todd) Durston; Andrew (Amy Worrell); Erik(Amy). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Sam (18); Charlie (15) Johnson; Zoe (13), Margot (12), Frederick (8.5), Finn (6) Durston; Maeve (3) Almer; and Oskar (3) Almer. He is also survived by his sister Marianne (William) Johnson and brother, Arnold (Susan Ackerman) Almer and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was so loved by them all. A memorial service will be held on April 7 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel at the Community Church of Vero Beach.A memorial service is also being planned for a future date in May to be held in Harbert Michigan. Anders, Mary - Valparaiso  
Mary E. Anders, 93, of Valparaiso, IN, formerly of Dolton, IL died Friday, March 27, 2015 at the VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, IN. Mary was born on February 10, 1922 to Herman and Henrietta (Engel) Anders of Dolton, IL. After graduating from Thornton Township High School, Harvey IL, Mary attended DePauw University, Greencastle, IN graduating in 1944 earning a Bachelor of Music Degree with a major in Piano and a minor in Public School Music. Mary taught as a Instructor in Music at Berea College, Berea, KY from 1945-1956. She left Berea College and during the 1956-57 academic year studied at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL where she earned her Master of Music Degree, with a major in Piano. After earning her advanced degree, Mary returned to her teaching career and from 1957-59 taught at Wartburg College, Waverly, IA as an Instructor in Piano. In May 1959, Mary joined the faculty of the Iowa Wesleyan College's Music Department in Mt. Pleasant, IA as an Assistant Professor of Music. She remained there until 1972 when she resigned as a Associate Professor of Music after deciding to leave her teaching career and return to Dolton, IL to care for her aged parents. She is survived by her brother, Robert J. (Marilyn "Peggy") Anders of Crown Point, IN; nieces, Nancy Anders of Hebron, IN, Etta (Bernard) Nevel of South Bend, IN, Jennifer Fox of Perth, Australia, Emily (Donald) Hensley of Phoenix, AZ; nephews, Herbert (Marsha) Anders of The Woodlands, TX, Theodore "Ted" Coolidge of Denver, CO, Curtis (Kimm) Coolidge of Lakewood, CO; 10 great and 7 great-great nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Henrietta (Engel) Anders, and sister Ardath (Anders) Coolidge. A private burial will take place at Oakland Memory Lanes Cemetery in Dolton, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthur B. & Ethel V. Horton VNA Hospice Center, Valparaiso IN. Arrangements made by Dykes Funeral Home, Inc., (219) 462-3125.
