Debi's love of life shone through her beautiful smile and uplifting laugh, which deepens the tragedy of losing her. She passed away on April 22, 2014, aged 51. After she became ill, she was surprised by how much she was loved by so many. She shouldn't have been, as much as she cared about others. Her boundless energy and curiosity, insightfulness, and readiness with a funny word, story, or nudge - were a few of the qualities that made her irresistible. She thrived in many pursuits, among them as a loving wife to Mark and devoted mom to Stella and Alex, who were encouraged to be who they are. Reared in and around Detroit, Debi attended Michigan State University
and forged a path to journalism. She excelled as a reporter
in Chicago and beyond for Reuters, exploring with a deft touch stories about science, medical technology and the occasional oddity. Her widely recognized writing and collegiality culminated in an incisive blog for Reuters about cancer and the toll it takes, which touched and informed many, as she wanted it to. Debi we feel you still, and always will. Adored by her loving husband, Mark, two wonderful children, Stella and Alex; devoted parents, Clara and Larry; beloved sisters, Suzy and Laurie; and the Ridgebacks, of course.
