Frank James Allston

Frank James Allston was born in New Bern, NC to Frank and Louise Allston. He graduated from Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, VA in 1948 and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He graduated in 1952 with a B.A. in journalism and political science and met Barbara French Brown and married in September 1955. They have two sons, James and John. While at UNC, Frank enlisted in the Navy Reserve in 1951 and after college he graduated from the Navy Reserve Office Candidate School in early 1953. He served in various positions all over the globe. He retired from the reserves in 1985 as a Rear Admiral. During his naval career he received many awards and medals: Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Service Medal and the Navy Supply Corps Lifetime Award in 2005. After official retirement, he then spent the next 10 years researching the official 200 year history of the Navy Supply Corps, titled "Ready for Sea", published in 1995. He is preceded in death by Barbara, his wife of 55 years and survived by his sons, James (Judy), John (Cindy) and their children, Pierson, Christine, Nathan and Justin, and his sister Martha (William) Wildhack and their two children, William (Holly) and Elizabeth and their children, Evan and Jocelyn. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Ln., Naperville.
