Henrietta Chasanov

icon81, Died January 26, 2013 in Park Ridge. She was a resident of Niles Illinois. born on Oct. 27,1931 in Philadelphia, PA. Beloved daughter of Frieda (Hirsch) and Max Strassenberger, Bassist for nearly 40 years with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Devoted wife of the late Martin G. Chasanov, Ph.D. a research chemist and nuclear physicist at Argonne National Laboratory, a Korean War Veteran and Professional Trombonist until his death in 1985. Cherished Mother to Genevra Neumann, a Ph.D. Mathematician, Elliot (Lynn) Professor of Trombone at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and Maxim (Jill), a Psychiatrist in Chicago and vicinity. Dear Grandmother to Chanel, Dior, David, Michael, Lisa and Beth Feeley. Formerly of Homewood and Oak Park Illinois, Henrietta studied at The Art Institutes of Chicago and Philadelphia as well as the Philadelphia Academy of Music. She was offered a full tuition scholarship to study music at the University of Kentucky. She instead focused on family and a life and career in helping others. She worked as a Registered Nurse and as a Counselor. She also was a professional bass player and loved playing the Piano. Former volunteer at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, Pleasant Home and the Hemingway House in Oak Park as well as shelters for the homeless. To be installed at the Columbarium of Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC with memorial service for family only at a later date.
