Irwin Alter(1934 - 2013)

photoBorn June 19th, 1934, in Chicago, Died July 2nd, 2013, in Westlake Village CA. at the age of 79 - Irwin Charles Alter was an accomplished patent lawyer, "a civil procedure savant" according to his former colleague Nora Preece, with a degree in mechanical engineering from University of Illinois, and a law degree from DePaul - he was foremost a devoted husband, a loving father, an honest and kind man who believed in fairness and compromise. The son of Leo (a shoe salesman) and Molly Alter, Irwin was not born into privilege. Irwin was an Eagle Scout and a varsity wrestler as a boy, later in life an avid golfer and basketball player. He worked his way through college busing tables and spent many summers at Oak Street Beach where he first saw his wife and lifelong love to be, Cerna Weiner (aka Chickie). When he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2006, he got his affairs in order and made the most of his time left with his wife Chickie, who sadly got sick with ovarian cancer several years after. Surviving her by only 6 weeks, their love lives on in the hearts of the many people their lives have touched, including their surviving children (A.me and Joe), and their grandchildren (Jessica and Emily). A brief and silent memorial scattering of rose petals will be held for both Irwin and Chickie at 11:30 am on Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Rosewood Beach, Highland Park, IL (parking is limited) - and will reconvene at 1:00pm with a reception which will be held at Highland Park Country Club's recreation center, 1201 Park Avenue, Highland Park, IL . Please RSVP if attending either or both ceremonies: 847-778-8110
