Leighton Proffitt

Leighton ''Lee'' Proffitt, age 79, of Clinton, Missouri, passed Monday, January 13, 2003 at Golden Valley Memorial Hospital, Clinton. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton. Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Chapel. Family suggests contributions to the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital or VFW Post 1894, Clinton. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2003 at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights, Illinois. Lee was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of W.W.II., serving in Northern France and the Rhineland, where he recieved the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart. He owned the Newport Press in Chicago, Illinois, and later moved to Clinton, Missouri, where he owned the Best Western Colonial Motel. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1894 and the Optimist Club, all in Clinton. He is survived by one son, James Leighton Proffitt of Calsbad, California, three daughters, Nancy Dickerson of Clinton, Missouri, Donna Esse of Columbia, Missouri and Laura Price of Overland Park, Kansas; as well as 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Chester and Stella Sarah Kamp Proffitt; and his wife, Lorraine Proffitt.
