Leon Strauss

Strauss, age 88; beloved husband of Katherine for 47 years; loving father of Lynn Strauss (Alec Albee), Ruth (Steve) Stern, Barbara (Trevor) Levin, and Mark (Melissa) Strauss; proud grandfather of Dara, Hannah, Matt (Shoshana), Aaron, Elisha, and Yehuda; special great grandfather of Yonah; dear brother of the late Herbert Strauss. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 12 Noon at Temple Sholom, 3480 N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Anti-Cruelty Society, 157 W. Grand Avenue, Chicago, IL 60654, 312-644-8338 (anticruelty.org), or to the National Wildlife Federation, P.O. Box 1583, Merrifield, VA, 22116-1583, 1-800-822-9919 (nwf.org). Leon was a graduate of Hyde Park High School and of the University of Chicago. In 2003, the University honored him as an inaugural member of their Athletics Hall of Fame for Fencing. Leon was a member of the U.S. Olympic Fencing Squad in 1948 and 1952. During WW II, he served our country in the 100th Army Infantry, fought in Germany and France, and earned the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and other honors. He went on to a successful career for over 45 years as a stock broker and was named by Money Magazine as one of the top 100 stock brokers in the U.S. He was one of the first stockbrokers featured on Channel 26's television show called "Ask an Expert" for over a decade beginning in the early 1980's.
