Richard Dean Pettibone passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Evanston on November 4. He was 91. His beloved wife of 63 years, Jean B. Pettibone, died in 2010. He is survived by three daughters: Pamela Pettibone, Susan (Dod) Fraser, and Laura Wright; grandsons Dod (Elisabeth), George and Duncan Fraser, and Torin Wright; great grandchildren Claire and Jack Fraser; sister, Marie ("Patsy") McKeown and many extended family members. Mr. Pettibone's love of family is reflected in remembrances sharing common themes: his careful listening, subtle humor, and good sportsmanship. Mr. Pettibone graduated from Beloit College, served as an officer in the U.S. Navy in WW II and received his MBA from the University of Chicago. In 1960, he founded Pettibone-Chicago, Inc. an international distributer of bulk chemicals. He was active in many business and community related associations. An avid tennis player until his death, he rose to the rank of 8th on the USTA senior doubles roster. A memorial service will be held on December 1 at 4:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, 1427 Chicago Ave., Evanston. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jean B. Pettibone Scholarship Fund of the Music Institute of Chicago or the Pettibone Family Scholarship Fund at Beloit College.
