iconiconThemis A. Chacharon died peacefully on February 15 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Piraeus, Greece in 1926 and came to the United States with his family in 1930. Themis was a lifetime resident of the North Shore, grew up in Glencoe and raised his family in Highland Park. He graduated from New Trier High School in 1944. received a bachelors degree from Northern Illinois University in 1950 and a masters from Northwestern University in 1952. He worked as a teacher and an educational publisher. He is survived by his beloved wife Betty (Bilder), children Gregory (Debi), Andrew. and Diane, grandchildren Alexander, Stephanie and Christina, sisters, brothers and sisters in law, cousins, nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends. Themis was a United States Marine and served in World War II in the South Pacific in 1944-1946. Themis will be remembered for his bright smile, wonderful sense of humor, immense bravery and kind heart. A loving husband, father, son and friend, he will be missed by many. Visitation Wednesday from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home 1104 Waukegan Rd., Glenview. Family and friends will meet Thursday morning at Sts. Peter & Paul Greek Orthodox Church from 9:30am until time of funeral service at 10:00am. Interment Elmwood Cemetery.
