Janet Siegel Obituary


Janet Waldbott Siegel, of West Hollywood, CA and formerly of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully on July 1, 2008, at the age of 100. Ms. Siegel was born on Nov. 9, 1907, to Camille and Fannie Waldbott; She was widowed three times, being the beloved wife of the late Arthur Sommer, the late Gus Friedman, Sr., and the late Albert

Siegel; she was the loving mother of James J. Friedman and Gus Friedman, Jr. and the wonderfully warm and caring grandmother of Glenn (Donna) Friedman, Jackie

Friedman-Stein (Robert), Peter Friedman (Lisa Acker), Gary Friedman, Sharon (Steve)

Jacobson and Sandy Friedman; she was the doting great-grandmother to Rachel and Jeremy Jacobson, Noah and Lily Stein, and Miles and Anna Friedman; and a loving cousin to Steve (Louise) Cohn and many others. Ms. Siegel had deep roots in Chicago, having taught first grade at Chicago's Nettelhorst School in the 1930s and at Le Moyne School in the 1940's. She was active in and a Past President of Chicago Women's Aid of Chicago and a lifetime supporter of the Chicago Art Institute. In California, she will be remembered by her wonderful life-long friend and cousin

Teress Altschul and Ms. Altschul's compassionate and caring son, John Altschul. She served on the Senior Advisory Board of the City of West Hollywood and was also a regular volunteer at Meals on Wheels and at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Ms. Siegel was a bright and shining light onto the many friends and family that knew and loved her.
