Agustin BLANCAS Obituary

Agustin Felisissimo Blancas of Chicago, IL. Services will be Sunday for Agustin Felisissimo Blancas who passed away on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012 with his loving children by his bedside -- the day of his late wife Yolanda's 89th birthday. A longtime resident of Chicago, he was born in Mexico City on Aug. 6, 1915 and worked as a certified welder for GM Electro-Motive in La Grange, IL until retiring. A triathlete in his youth, he continued bicycling into his early 90's. He loved bicycling, swimming, playing chess, dancing, reading, spending time with his family. With a kind heart and a sweet sense of humor, he always kept a positive and loving outlook. He loved the lakefront and walked miles at its shore. He died peacefully at Seasons Hospice in Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago. He left behind numerous relatives and friends. While they mourn his passing, they celebrate his long life and the many blessings he provided. Visitation will be 5 p.m. Sunday with a memorial service at 6 p.m. at Benson Funeral Home, 3224 W. Montrose Ave., Chicago. Memorial gifts may be made to Seasons Hospice Foundation, 6400 Shafer Ct., Suite 700, Rosemont, 60018

1915-2012 or 97 years young, that was my Dad. Driving a car into his 80's and riding his bike on the Chicago lakefront into his 90's. From then he had no problem taking the subway or the city bus to his destination across town. Always eager to get out and about in the heat of summer or the cold snowy winter. A welder (Electromotive trains) by trade you would never know it. No respiratory problems due to welding fumes or illnesses due to his profession. Always eager to go to work and make a days pay. When we were very young he would purposely take us out of the neighborhood to go shopping or for lunch so we could see outside of our immediate area. He would cook liver with onions religiously as he knew to keep healthy as we were just learning. He loved family gatherings when his Grandkids and Great Grandkids came over to visit or visiting with them. He always used to say "I found you a good Mama." Well, she found us a good Daddy also. I was glad to see the 5 dozen attendees of family and friends at his wake. I was glad to see folks came from Mexico City, Los Angeles and neighboring States to pay their last respects. It is our name tradition to drop the Jr. once a father passes but I will not because I want all to know that their was a Sr. Rest in peace Dad and Vaya con Dios. Respectfully, A. Blancas Jr.

Long ago. Just one of the happy times where we celebrated life with my grandfather.

I will miss my grandfather, more than words can possibly express. I am comforted however in knowing that God has taken him to a better place and also that he will forever be watching over myself and my family. My grandfather's name was Agustin and coincedently his oldest and youngest child were both born in August. He died in August on my (decessed) grandmother's birthday and today on the day of his memorial service, my uncle (by marriage) and one of my best friends also lost their fathers-a sign that they are truly tied to our family by a greater union than law. Today was also the birthday of one of his great grandchildren. Besides all of these amazing month of August relations, my grandfather had several grand children and great grandchildren that were born during the month of August as well as his great-great grandaughter who was also born in August. The month of August will always be a special month to me for these reasons, because it was a speacial for him. Grandpa I will remember you year round, but in the month of August I can promise you that there will not be a moment that passes without you on my mind.

We never had the opportunity to meet Lucy's father, but through stories Lucy and John told us we could understand some essence of the man. Lucy, we cannot be with you and your family on Sunday, but our thoughts will be in Illinois with you. Love and hugs, Sharon, Mauricio and Mauro Rojo
