Dear Lynn,

Words can hardly express how shocked and heartbroken I was to learn about what happened to your beloved son Alex. I am so very, very sorry for this sudden and tragic loss.

Although many years have passed since we worked together at the Bradford Exchange, I still remember with great fondness your visits to the office with little Alex in his stroller. He was such a beautiful baby, and I see that he grew up to be a very handsome young man.

You and Mike deserve to be so proud--not just of his good looks, but more importantly, his tremendous accomplishments in the world of political campaignig. His legacy will be built on the historic work he did to bring to the nation's highest office such an extraordinary and gifted man as Barack Obama. He was a precious gift to you, and to our country.

I can hardly think of a greater tribute.

I will hold you close in my heart during these difficult days...and beyond. If there is anything I can for you, please do not hesitate to call on me. It would be an honor to serve you and your family.

With deepest condolences,

Rita

July 16, 2012

Dear Mike, Lynn, Abby and family,

Alex and I started at BSG two weeks apart, had trainings together and shared an office for a few months. He was such a pleasure to get to know. I had just come back from a year of living in Vietnam and we had a lot of common ground and tales to recount. He was by far one of the most loving straight guys I've ever counted as a true friend.

You should be very proud of all he achieved and the countless people's lives he touched. As we get older, we come to realize that is what's really important. He did more than most of us could dream of in our lifetimes, even though his ended entirely too soon.

My heart is with you today and this week in Evanston even though I can't be there physically. I'm sure there's people all over the world who could think of little else than Alex this weekend.

My condolences and best wishes to your family.

Dear Lynn, Michael and Abby:
I remember Alex very clearly -- and fondly-- from my years working at JRC and tutoring Abby for her Bat Mitzvah. Although Alex was never my student, he was one of those young people who left a memorable imprint on everyone he met. One of my nieces volunteered early on for the 2004 campaign, and she said she has been getting e-mails and texts for the last two days from other Obamaa campaign "alums" who griefstricken by Alex's death. One thing that everyone remembers about Alex is how supportive he was of other people and THEIR work. He was a special person, working to change the world to kinder, gentler place for all. His memory will be a blessing, and his absence will leave a hole in our hearts.LIke many people, I will be making a contribution to the Obama campaign in Alex's memroy, and when I vote in November, I will think of him. May the Source of all consolations comfort you at this devestativng time.
