Ruth,
I send my sincere sympathy to you. Now that I am retired I am out of the loop and just of Leo's death. He made an incredible contribution to science and his legacy is secure.

Ruth and Family:
Shirley and I just learned of Leo's passing. Our deepest condolences. Leo was a responsible for launching me on my trajectory in physics. First at Urbana when he took me under his wings , then at Brown where took me with him when he left Urbana. He was one of the most unselfish people I ever met. A great mentor to so many young scientists, and a person with a strong sense of social justice. His passing is a great loss to the world.

Leo became a great mentor to me. He was one of the few physicists I've known who are seriously deep philosophical thinkers. He should be recognized as a member of a spectacular group of Natural Philosophers--- a group that includes the likes of George Gabriel Stokes, and Isaac Newton. I will sorely miss his comments, advice, and his critiques.

What a sad day to accompany Leo on this final journey. I remember our first meeting in the mid 70's when Leo peered into the little office I shared with Ruth at the University of Rochester asking if I knew when she will be back, and then I recall our meeting, one of many, some thirty years later in his office at the University of Chicago, where we discussed at great length liquid jet instabilities, computational physic, emergence, doing physics in Chicago and a book on the ecstasy and tragedy of Glenn Gould.
For those who knew Leo, even a little, there is not likely to be one like him again in our lifetime however, we all will carry Leo, the great physicist and teacher, loyal friend, science advocate, and wise citizen of the world, for ever wherever we go. May he rest in peace.

Leo was a trusted senior mentor in our scientific community. He will be missed by many, including me, for his insightful and honest advice. Leo was truly a gentleman and a scholar.

I had occasion to visit and talk with Leo many times. I had always found him an inspiration. His creativity, clarity and humanity were remarkable and rare. The world of physics has lost one of its best examples of a sensitive, caring and insightful intellect.
My deepest condolences to Leo's family.

Dear Ruth and family:
I was shocked by Leo's passing. His energy and insight have always inspired generations of theoretical physicists like me.

A very sad day : Leo was a great scientist, but also a wonderful friend, someone who supported new ideas in all fields and was always ready to help younger people.
I remember Leo's crystal clear lectures
and also some unforgettable bicycle rides with Ruth and Leo in Kathmandu.
