Alfred J. Engling, age 88, longtime resident of Elmhurst, formerly of Lombard. Member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish, Member of York High School Graduating Class of 1938. Navy Veteran of WWII. Beloved husband of the late Betty Jane, nee Seger; loving father of Robert (Eiko), James (the late Carolyn), Richard (Gail) and Michael; proud grandfather of Nancy (Brad) Johnson, Erica (David) Hamilton, Kristin, Jonathan and Zoe Olivia; dear great-grandfather of Kaleb, Laitham and Sienna, Declan Odessa. Visitation Friday, 3 to 8 p.m. at Gibbons Funeral Home, 134 South York Road, (1/2 mile North of Saint Charles Road), Elmhurst. Friends and family will meet for a Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 134 Arthur Street, Elmhurst. Interment Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Hillside.
