NANCY DIXON

Nancy Dixon, nee Shumate, age 79, a longtime resident of Hinsdale, Western Springs and Sanibel Island, FL, died Tuesday Nov. 13th at Plymouth Place, LaGrange Park. Nancy was born Nov. 27, 1932 in Johnson City, TN to Lewis and Mary Shumate. She graduated from Hollins College in 1954 with a degree in biology. She was married on Dec. 21, 1954 to Lt j.g. Robert Dixon and, after he completed his service with the U.S. Navy, moved to Western Springs, IL where Bob joined his father's real estate firm, G. Grant Dixon and Sons. Bob preceded her in death in Jan. of 2000. Nancy was active in the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, the Hinsdale Golf Club, the DuPage Birding Club and the D.A.R. She was an ardent gardener, golfer, birder and floral designer. Nancy is survived by two sons, Robert Daniel "Dan" (Janet) and Charles, and four grandchildren, Kathryn (Andrew) Mills, Julia, Emily, and Kent Dixon. She also has two brothers, Lewis (Margaret) and Kent (Janie) Shumate with a sister, Mary Lu (David) Healey preceding her in death. Visitation 4 to 8pm Friday, Nov. 16 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W 55th St., Countryside. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30am Saturday Nov. 17 at the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, 5220 Wolf Rd. Interment will be private.
