Robert Connery

Robert Connery, 60, of Chicago, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, of cancer. An Executive in the commercial mortgage industry for more than three decades, most recently with The Philipsborn Company, he worked with fidelity and integrity. He attended Georgetown University, Loyola University and was a continuing student at the University of Chicago. A fit athlete and lover of Lake Michigan, Captain Bob was a self-taught sailor, delighting in the adventure and unpredictability of water and wind. Born in Chicago and devoted husband for 22 years to Patricia, nee Mutke, Connery, he was also a travel partner, teacher and friend to his 17 nieces and nephews; and his 12 grandnieces and nephews. A ravenous reader, lover of classical literature, student of mathematics, he was known by friends as a Renaissance man. A follower of James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway, he too ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. He is survived by loving wife, Pat; and sisters, Joan Mudd and Nancy Connery; and was brother to the late Michael Connery. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to Cancer Research, Northwestern Memorial Foundation, 750 N. Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60611. Visitation will take place from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at the Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Ave., Wilmette, 847-251-8200.
