Scott Ellwood Obituary

Scott Ellwood, a kind and wise man, Suzanne's beloved husband and friend, and a respected attorney, died on April 20th. Born July 8, 1936 in Boston Massachusetts, Scott grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of William and Doris (Cook) Ellwood. His parents instilled in him a love for travel, for education and the fine arts. Scott also inherited a love for the law from his father, and seemingly a love for automotive vehicles, particularly Porsches, from his mother. Scott went to Williams College and Harvard Law School. He raised his family and lived with his wife, Suzanne Timble, in Winnetka, Illinois. He practiced estate planning and tax law at the McBride Baker & Coles firm, retired from McDermott Will & Emery, and was a wonderful mentor to many new lawyers throughout his career. Scott was a member of multiple bar associations, and was on the Board of the Harvard Law Society of Illinois, as well as being active as a Board Member of many foundations and the retired President of the Mark Morton Foundation. Suzanne would always describe him as the nicest man in the world. He was always there to lend a hand and a smile, to open a door, to give a hug, to help. He was kind and generous to those he knew and to strangers along the way. It made no difference whether you were the mailman, the messenger, the secretary or the president - he loved and was loved, by everyone. Scott enjoyed travel, near and far, golf with his one iron firmly in hand, and tennis with a very evil spin; gardening, his dogs and his many friends, and he loved The Beatles and the Boston Red Sox. He had many estate planning clients who kept Scott in their hearts, long after he retired. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Suzanne, brothers, John (Babs) Ellwood and Sud (Lynn) Ellwood, children, Molly (David) Santistevan, Prescott (Edelyn) Ellwood, and Vicky (John) Moskal and grandchildren Ted, Matt, Taylor, Mick, Cassie and Aidan. He will be terribly missed. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the North Shore Senior Center (House of Welcome), Church of the Holy Comforter or Williams College would be greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Holy Comforter, 222 Kenilworth Avenue, Kenilworth, on Thursday, May 15th, at 2 p.m.
