As baseball season approaches I'm drawn to memories of Ted. So many memories, whether it was growing up or as an adult, baseball was a conduit for us. I'm especially remembering May 28,1978 when we spontaneously rose from the breakfast table and sped to Wrigley Field to hawk some tickets. We witnessed the Cubs ascension to 1st place that day and I got to hear (once again) some great tales of Cub teams from his youth. Well if the Cubs reach 1st this year Dad, they probably won't remain there, again. Missing and thinking of you.

Though I never had the honor of meeting Mr. Scott, I, and many others from the next generation in Mt. Vernon had an example in his efforts. As an Illini, when I encountered some of my pre-law profs, they, upon hearing of my hometown, often asked if I had known Mr. Scott. Many of us took inspiration long after he had walked the academic pathways we took a generation later.
I can vouch for this: Mt. Vernon is proud to have known him, and Alma Mater has been honored to call him a son, as well.
My family's prayers go to all his family and friends. What an honor it must have been to know him well.God Bless you all.

When we lose someone we love it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word. We may not understand why you left this earth, or why you left before we were ready to say good-bye, but little by little, we begin to remember not just that you died, but that you lived. Your life gave us memories too beautiful to forget. We will see you again some day, in a heavenly place where there is no parting. A place where there are no words that mean good-bye. You are now with your family, Peace be with you. Sarah, Robert and Scott Buckland

Truly a great American. As the story goes, a young attractive female lawyer entered into his elevator passing over his ever cheery greeting. A few minutes later at a meeting of "powerful" lawyers and dignitaries at which everyone greeted him with hearty hellos, the young lawyer walked up to him and sheepishly said, "you are somebody". May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
The rain fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand. In loving Memory of my father. Sarah Scott Buckland
