Edward Martinek Obituary

Edward Martinek, age 92.75, long time resident of Clarendon Hills for 60+ years, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2013, at Hinsdale Hospital. He peacefully joined his lifetime sweetheart and wife of 50+ years, Catherine. He was born on March 11, Ed was survived by his loving family; father to Cathi Durr, Cynthia Robinson (late husband Michael Robinson), Edward Martinek (Becky Martinek), and Christine Kowalkowski (Jeffrey Kowalkowski); grandchildren, the late Jason Durr, Patrick Durr, Benjamin Martinek (Gina Campos Martinek), and Andrew Martinek; great grandchildren Hailey and Frankie. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought him enormous pride and joy. Ed was a veteran of WWII, earning two Purple Hearts. He was a recognized expert rifleman and sharp shooter for the US Army. He was an accomplished Journeyman for R.R. Donnelley, Lakeside Press for approximately 45 years. He was considered a Master Tinker, and wood craftsman, who knew how to fix anything and everything to the point of breaking it again. He loved Sunday dinners with the family and his friends, and especially loved his martini in his Chicago Bears glass. Visitation will be Monday, December 30, 9:30 to 11:00 AM, at Notre Dame Church in Clarendon Hills, 64 Norfolk, Clarendon Hills. Mass will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment immediately following at Clarendon Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either the Brookfield Zoo, or Boys Town. To donate to the Zoo - go to www.brookfieldzoo.org, or 3300 Golf Road, Brookfield, IL. 60513, or www.boystown.org, or 14100 Crawford St., Boys Town, NE, 68010. The cause of Ed's death - one too many birthdays.
