Helen Fitch

1924 - 2013

Helen S. Fitch, 89, formerly of Chicago and Western Springs, IL, passed away early Thursday morning, December 5, 2013, at Upjohn Community Care Center in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born on August 13, 1924 in Washington D.C., the daughter of Frederick and Mary Gertrude (Renner) Shearer. In 1945, Helen earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Ohio Wesleyan University. Helen was active in her church (Western Springs United Church of Christ) and her sorority (Delta Delta Delta) for many years. She was a volunteer at the Brookfield Zoo in Brookfield, IL for 30 years. Helen loved to garden, to knit, and to visit with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.¿ On June 9, 1945, Helen was united in marriage to Morgan L. Fitch, Jr. who preceded her in death on November 18, 2013. Also preceding her in death were a brother, Ross Shearer and sister, Margaret Hickok. Surviving are her four children, Ruth (Timothy) White, Mary (James) White, Morgan IV (Patricia) Fitch and Frederick (Marie) Fitch; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister Harriett Burke of Boca Raton, FL.¿ Honoring Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
