Alex, for as much as you wanted people to hate you as "Sweet and Sour" Larry Sweeney, you were always a wonderful presence in pro wrestling, willing to receive congrats from fellow wrestlers and fans alike. I came late to this news, and what terrible news it is. Alex is the first person I remember from Central School and he remained a prominent thread throughout my school days. After graduating, I hadn't heard from him for a while, but when he reached out to me after my accident in 2007, it was a serious comfort. I hope he has found peace and that his family may be able to soon.

Dear Whybrow family, You have been in my heart and prayers ever since learning of Alex's death. My heart breaks for each of you, and grieves at the sudden ending to a vibrant life. Alex and Lauren had come in contact again recently, and I was always happy to get little updates on his life, and thankful that the kids had renewed their friendship. I knew Alex as Larry Sweeney. I have never met a nicer guy. He went out of his way to take pictures and sign autographs for fans. I was lucky enough to see him wrestle live dozens of times and talk to him a lot before and after shows. He was such a great person. He was amazing wrestler and talker. I never thought I'd see the day when I would contribute to something like this but he was special,I'm just a fan but it was Sweet and Sour Larry Sweeney that got me out of my living room and out to the shows. No-one worked a crowd like Larry, he will always be my fondest memory of local wrestling shows.

Alex was one of the first friends I made freshman year at Oberlin, and my closest friend that first semester. He will always have a special place in my heart. I will always remember and cherish his passion, charisma, intelligence, curiosity, and genuine kindness.

What a profound loss to us all. I was Alex's English teacher when he was a junior in high school. He was one of my all time favorite students-- brilliant, passionate, charismatic. Alex really was one of the good guys. He lit up a room when he walked in, and you never knew if he'd crack a joke, or wax philosophical and talk deeply about a myriad of topics.
