Bruce Gasaway Callahan, age 77, born in Chicago and a resident of Oak Park, IL, died Wednesday, October 7, 2015, at home surrounded by family. Bruce was a retired pharmacist and an owner and founder of Bruce & Ken's Pharmacies and Ultra Care, Inc. here in Chicagoland. He grew up in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago, attended Univ. of Illinois Pharmacy School and worked and raised his family in Chicago and Glen Ellyn, IL. Bruce was a private pilot, volunteer tutor, and enjoyed many hobbies - he was an avid Cubs fan and long-time Bears season ticket holder. His best times where with his family, including backyard pool parties, flying to the farm, making pancakes and popcorn and ice cream trips at the cottage, big holiday gatherings, and outings like the annual circus trip for the young ones. His caring and generous touch reached far and often to his friends, family, and many past employees, peers and business partners - we will forever remember his smile and laugh. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joyce Callahan; his six children, Bruce (Catherine Rison), Jeaneen (Tim) Pociask, Katie (Ron) Fielmann, Chris (Caroline), Patrick (Rebecca) and Melissa (Chris) Watters; 19 grandchildren, Richard, Jaclyn, Meghan, Alex, Sean, Kasey, Colleen, Katie, John, Patrick, Erin, Shannon, Connor, Shealy, Ava, Jackson Bruce, Riley, Macy, and Gwen; and great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Liam. Also, fond uncle of Peggy, Pat, Colleen, Casey, Shannon, Patrick , John, Jenny, Priscilla, Julee, Danny and Renee; fond brother-in-law of David and Edie Helledy. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jean; brothers, John and Pat (Patricia); brother-in-law Martin Howard Helledy, Jr.; and close brother-in-law and friend, Dennis Helledy. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the CurePSP for their efforts to increase awareness, education, care, and cure for devastating prime of life neurodegenerative diseases like Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
