After the years have passed, I would not change a single word I said about Dave. I missed him back then and I miss him now. He was a great person. Respectfully, Ken Holden

So sad to hear about Dave's passing. I worked with him when he was in New Haven. Dave always had a kind word and a funny comment for everyone. He was not afraid to get his hands dirty when someone had a problem with a locomotive that he could help with. We kept in touch after he returned to Chicago. He sent photos of his kids and grandkids...he was so proud of them! He was one of the good guys. My sympathies go out to the whole Haffner family.

I spent five years with Dave in the Amtrak office at 16th Street. From the day I met him, I knew he was one of the finest managers I had ever worked with my entire life. He was very highly respected by all who worked for or with him. I am very proud to have known him. He will be sorely missed.

Coach Dave Haffner, you and your dad brought many championships to St. Bede! St. Bede was the Duke University of Chicago.

I've known Dave Haffner for over 35 years. It's hard for me to decide whether he was a better workplace friend or a great leader, , , because he was definitely both. Dave had a great passion for railroading which was second to none. He also had a knack for humor and wit that we will all miss. While we will truly miss him, I take comfort in knowing that God has a new Guardian Angel that will be watching over his family and extended railroad family as well.
To my good friend, , , , , , You're the Best!
May God Bless You and Grant You Eternal Peace and Joy!
