Dennis J. McLaughlin, passed away suddenly. Beloved husband of Christine nee McAuley. Loving father of Lauren and Carolyn. Beloved son of the late Dennis and the late Patsy. Cherished brother of Roseann (Matthew) Federico. Devoted son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend of many.Visitation Tuesday, February 11, 2014 from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. at COLONIAL-WOJCIECHOWSKI FUNERAL HOME 6250 N. Milwaukee Ave. Chicago. Funeral services Wednesday, February 12, starting with prayers at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, proceeding to St. Juliana Church for 10:00 a.m. Mass. Cremation will be private. Words can't express the void of coming home and not seeing my neighbor Dennis McLaughlin either snoozing in a chair or standing in his driveway next door to my house and greeting me and my family with a wave and a smile. In 20 years he was not only the perfect neighbor but a friend who loved watching my children grow up and to them a police officer role model they looked up to and became his babysitter. If something was bothering Dennis I couldn't tell because all I can ever remember are positive statements from him, in fact the last words I heard from him the night before he passed away were: “Thanks for doing my snow Jim” … boy I'm going to miss Dennis! Since Dennis died while on duty as a Chicago Police detective it will always be my honor to refer to Dennis as a “Hero”! Godspeed Dennis
