Obituary

Donald Howard Shultz, 84, of Plainfield, at peace on Oct. 24, 2012, beloved and devoted husband of Lucille, nee Vasta; loving father of Mary (Steve) Blohm, Lisa (Joseph) Garvy, Marla (Bill) Isaacs, Katherine Bender, John (Beth); loving grandfather of Rebecca and Matt Blohm, Nicholas, Daniel, William, Charles and Amanda Garvy, Brett and Christopher Dimick, Lauren, Emily and Sarah Bender, and Anthony and the late Michael "Miracle Michael" Shultz. Donald was preceded in death by parents Carl and Clara (nee Sharapata) Shultz, and adored siblings Leroy, Dolores, Forrest, and Laverne. Born and raised in Lyons, IL, Don graduated from Knox College in 1950. After service in the U.S. Army, he married Lucille in 1954. Don and Lucille resided in Riverside, Downers Grove, Willowbrook and Plainfield during the course of their nearly 59-year marriage. A natural salesman, Don began his professional career with Willow Farm Dairies in Brookfield. He went on to become a successful commercial real estate broker with Rich Port and then First United Realtors, earning many prestigious accolades and awards. Don devoted his life to public service spanning seven decades. He served as Mayor of Willowbrook from 1967 to 1974 immediately followed by tenure with the DuPage County Board. He spent the last 19 years in service to the Carillon Community in various roles, the last ten as President of the homeowner's association. An eternal optimist, Don will always be remembered for his tremendous leadership, generosity, and devotion to friends and family, punctuated by his strong and resonant voice. His legacy lives in his love of life and his pride for his strong and close-knit family who adore him endlessly. Funeral procession Monday, Oct. 29, 9:30 a.m. from Anderson Memorial Chapel, 606 Town Hall Dr., Romeoville, to St. Mary Immaculate Parish Church, 15629 State Highway 59, Plainfield for the funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Visitation Sunday, Oct. 28, from 3 to 9 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Chapel. Interment at St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald's name to the Miracle Michael Fund (www.miraclemichael.org), 4823 Fesseneva Ln., Naperville, IL 60564, established in fond memory of grandson Michael Shultz, to benefit the Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Foundation.
