Obituary Condolences

Evelyn Kestenbaum Averick, 90, passed away peacefully in her home in Chicago on Feb. 1, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness. Beloved wife of the late Walter Averick; devoted mother to Jeffrey (Helen Hoch) Averick of Marblehead, MA, Sara (Marcus) Weiss of Newton, MA and Ellen (Larry) Schor of Chicago; loving grandmother of eight and adored aunt. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in Mountainside, NJ, Boca Raton, FL and in Chicago for the past five years. She was a gifted singer, accomplished and recognized writer, editor, writing therapist, the award-winning writer and producer of the documentary film, "He That Hath Clean Hands". A committed supporter with her husband of Israel, including the opening of a nursery school in Israel as well as numerous philanthropic endeavors, she was an intellect whose thirst for knowledge and self-reflection was continually quenched throughout her life. Memorial Service Friday, 1 p.m. at Chicago Sinai Congregation, 15 W. Delaware Pl, Chicago.
