Dick Grassfield was the kind of guy who called you late in the evening or the day after a get together and left a phone message thanking you for joining him for dinner or for stopping by to visit him.
The fellow who, in an age of text messages, emails and social media took the time to handwrite a card expressing quite eloquently how much you meant to him and how much he valued your friendship. And somehow you knew without question that when he wrote Love, Dick he really, really meant it.
If anything Dick taught us to enjoy moments of pure joy while you can, where you can and with whom you can whenever you can.
Life, love and the dearest of friends can be fleeting; appearing like a morning mist; a scene from Brigadoon, and suddenly, the brushing hand of time sweeps across the landscape, and they disappear into our memory.
If Dick taught us anything it was to treasure the moment, enjoy life, be a kid, don't be afraid to try something you've never done before . . . and for heaven's sake, find the time to giggle and laugh even if it's at yourself.
I know of nothing that gave Dick more pleasure than being with his wife Joyce, his children, grand children and his friends.
He was dearly loved, and he will be dearly missed.

Dick Grassfield was an amazing man. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was one of a kind. Everything he did he did well! He made everyone around him feel special. We were lucky to have him in our lives. He will dearly be missed. We will never forget the twinkle in his eye and the way he made us feel. We will treasure the way he made us laugh, our many wonderful conversations, and his exquisite dinners and sense of style. His smile will be with us forever. We love him and we will miss him always and his memory will live in our hearts.

To the Grassfield family, my deepest sympathies to your family for your loss. There is no doubt that Dick lived a long and happy life. He (as well as Joyce) cared so much about so many and had a warmth about him that I had never experienced. There is relief to know he is with Joyce and they can be together once again. They were amazing people to know with so many stories and much needed wisdom to spread.
