JACOB BENTER Obituary

Jacob B. Benter, 87, Lake Summerset, IL died at 7:40 a.m., Tuesday, August 10, 2010 after a brief illness. Born July 31, 1923 in Chicago, IL, the son of Bruno and Anna (Derron) Benter. Lived 24 years in Davis, coming here from Chicago. Married the former Betty Gardiner in Chicago, IL on June 22, 1946. He was employed as a police officer by the City of Chicago. He served in the US Navy as an Aviation Machinist Mate. Member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Durand, Illinois and was a life member of the American Legion. He graduated from Lane Technical High School in Chicago. Survivors include daughter Melody (James) Neurauter, Des Plaines, IL; son Jack (Deborah) Benter, Boulder City, Nevada; daughter Donna (Michael) Burns, Livermore, CA; grandchildren Beth (Jeffrey) Kobbeman, Kristine Neurauter, Katherine (Matthew) Minucci, Jack (Emily) Benter, Michael Burns and Jacob (Tracee) Burns; great-grandchildren Anthony, Ava, Hannah, Jacob, Roxie and Kamren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2010 in St. Mary Catholic Church 602 West Main, Durand, IL with Msgr. Eric Barr, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand, IL. Visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home, 101 Main Street, Durand, IL from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, August 15, 2010. A scripture service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. For more information call 1-800-213-7070.
