James MacDonald Hall, Sr. was born on April 15 1925 in South Pasadena, California and was raised by his parents, Lawrence and Mary Hall, in San Marino, California. He passed away July 24, 2016. He moved to Chicago with his parents in 1941, the year he enrolled at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He studied to be an engineer like his father and grandfather, but his college years were interrupted in 1943 when he entered the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in post-War Germany in 1945. When discharged in 1946, he returned to Cornell, and graduated in 1948 in the same class as his future wife, Clarine. They reunited while both were employed in New York City, and wed in 1950. Employed by US Steel, James was transferred to Chicago that year. They settled in Evanston, where their first child, Susan Hall was born in 1954. Two sons followed, James Jr. in 1954 and Larry in 1957, the year the family moved to Winnetka. He continued to work in the steel industry until his retirement. In the early 1960s, he helped found Winnetka's Boy Scouts Troop 20. He is survived by his four children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A funeral mass was held August 1, 2016 at SS Faith, Hope & Charity Church in Winnetka. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery in Lake Forest. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
