Obituary Condolences

Joan Enyart Scheltens, age 58, of Oak Park, passed away Oct. 7, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Joan was the beloved wife of Peter Scheltens; loving mother of Ashley, Jake, and Kelly Scheltens; dearest sister of Barbara, Marilyn and Richard (Tricia) Enyart; dearest sister-in-law of Georgia Cook; beloved aunt of Connie and Dom Cook and Natalee and Gina Enyart. Joan was a special niece, cousin, and friend of many. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Patricia (nee Heneghan) Enyart. Joan graduated from Trinity High School in 1972 and earned her B.S. from Dominican University in 1976 and received her masters in education from Dominican University. Besides her family Joan's passion was teaching. Joan taught biology at Morton West High School in Berwyn for over twenty years. Affectionately known as" Mrs. S" by her students, Joan leaves a far reaching legacy of kindness, humor, and the pursuit of life-long learning. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the students, faculty, and staff at Morton who supported Joan with love and kindness during her three year battle with ovarian cancer. Visitation Thursday, 3 to 9 p.m. with celebration of life service at 7 p.m. at Peterson-Bassi Chapel, Gamboney & Sons Directors, 6938 W. North Ave., (three blocks east of Harlem) Chicago, IL.
