As a friend and fraternity brother of Larry, I was shocked and saddened to learn of his untimely death. Two other fraternity brothers and I had re-connected with Larry in 2007 at our Denison 40th class reunion, and thereafter, all four of us tried to meet up for a week at a different vacation destination each year.
I will sorely miss Larry's wry and incisive wit and his great company.
Farewell, Larry.

I was Larry's room mate at Denison and traveled with him for 3 months in the summer of 1964, having many wonderful adventures.
On October 18th 2010 we had dinner together, our first visit since graduation from Denison. Larry was the same gentle, fun and adventure loving friend, and we talked of sailing together next summer. My prayers are with him and his family who he talked so fondly of.

I was shocked by this news. "Lorenzo" was a lively member in our evening Spanish class. We always enjoyed his spectacular contributions and sense of humor. He will be missed.

One of Larry’s closest friends, John Vitt, would periodically bring Larry to the Union League Club to take a squash lesson with me, in the hope that Larry could get a leg up on his buddies at the East Bank Club. I’d never given a lesson to anyone that wasn’t sure if they were right handed or left handed. Larry was an absolute original: smart, sassy, humorous, serious, goofy, passionate, and warm (among many other qualities). I will miss the wonderfully intense energy he brought to everything and everyone he touched. As a gift, he introduced my family to the “Confused Chicken Sandwich” at Suzies on Montrose, and we’ll be sure to go have one in his memory.

Many fond memories returned to me upon reading of Larry's tragic accident, whether it was racing sailboats, getting together for our "gourmet club", riding on his train (in the attic) and so many more. His wonderful smile and sense of humor will stay with me forever. My deepest sympathy to you, Susan and to your family.

Larry was a close friend from the moment we entered law school in 1967. During our second year we roomed together with another close friend, Tom Whalen. The three of us shared laughter and many adventures that are priceless memories. The adventures continued over the years, the most recent being my 2008 trip with Larry to Cuba, where his emerging Spanish language skills proved useful in navigating Havana. I especially treasure our last afternoon together a few weeks ago in mid-October, when the two of us played golf in Ann Arbor in beautiful autumn weather with the leaves in full color. Larry was having difficulty with his drives and I gave him a pointer that he used to hit the ball long and straight. Larry was thrilled and, with his typical enthusiasm, reciprocated by giving me advice about my swing—which completely threw off my game. Larry won the round! My heartfelt sympathy to you and your family, Susan. During our recent 40th reunion, the law school published biographical information and pictures of members of our class. As I recall, Larry was the only classmate who submitted a picture of his family. You were the pride of his life.

Prayers for Larry and sympathy to his family. Larry's smiling face and friendliness will be missed in the locker room and on the golf course at Evanston where I did have the privilege to play with him.

Since we've known her, Julia has regaled us with Larry stories and we could see just how much of an influence he was in her life. Their bond with each other as University of Michigan alums was three-generation strong, and he forgave her for marrying Tim from rival ND. He was a real 'dad' to Tim, whose own father lives 800 miles away and we love how Larry welcomed him into their family as if he were one of his own. We also saw the love and pleasure he took in being Lucy's grandpop. He will be missed by his Kearney family. We send our love and deepest sympathy to Julia and her mom, sisters and brother.

"Over the past four years I had the privilege to teach Larry the wonderful game of golf. He was passionate on every swing. Always in the quest for that repeatable swing with pure determination and unique pass at the ball. All the while he would ask about "how's your family doing." I didn't know if I was in a lesson or mentor session. But always look forward to our next lesson or round of golf together. I will miss his spirit and sincere friendship forever. Right back at you golf pal!

Larry and I were friends for over a half century. From "Herr Jack's" German classes at WTHS to sharing our children's weddings. We shared the same birthday and I will forever miss those "Happy Birthday, Buddy" phone calls every July 3rd. Sorry we didn't get to play more golf or do those trips together to foreign lands that we talked about. I will miss you forever, my good man. The world will forever be a sadder place without your wonderful smile. To Susan and all of Larry's wonderful family, Vira and I extend our heartfelt sympathy in a way that language cannot express. God Speed, Larry. God Speed.

Larry was always a pleasure to be around. His wit and humour made our golf lessons a great time. I will really miss our time on the range and awaiting the next entry into the LWS Golfing Bible. May his memory be eternal.

I was so sad to hear of this tragic accident. I knew Larry and Susan when I was a little girl living in Waukegan. Our parents sailed together at the Waukegan Yacht Club. He always talked to me and made me laugh, along with his wife Susan. I have very fond memories of him even though I have not seen him in a long time. My condolences go to Susan, his children, grandchildren as well as other family and friends at this time of great loss. I am so sorry.
