MARIAN WATTS Obituary

Marian Watts, 95, of La Grange Park died Sept. 8. She was born Marian Johanna Lyshoj on Sept. 26, 1916, in Teeds Grove, IA, where her father ran a general store and she attended a one-room schoolhouse. She and her late husband Dr. Gil Ehlers moved to the Chicago area in the late 1930s, and she spent most of her adult life in Berwyn and Western Springs. Marian was a homemaker whose true vocations were her faith and her family. She was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, taking on many leadership roles as clerk of session and deacon and was involved in many areas of church ministry. She was preceded in death by three husbands, Dr. Gil Ehlers, Milton Worcester and Tom Watts; and three siblings, Glenn Lyshoj, Leona Jackson and Alice Greve. Survivors include three daughters, Gail Johnson (Bob) of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, Gretchen Ruff (Frank) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, and Geri Kay Ehlers of Redding, CA.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and other extended family. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Plymouth Place, 315 N. La Grange Road, La Grange Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, 5250 Wolf Rd., Western Springs, IL 60558.

Marion was a beautiful and wonderful person. Her lovley demeanor and generous nature were evident in her actions, word and deeds. I feel blessed to have known her, if only for a brief time.

The times I did get to visit with my great Aunt were nice. It was always fun listening to stories of the family. Marian seemed to always have time for family and friends. She was a very special woman.

She was a wonderful lady; she had a spirit to be admired. Many of us thought of her as a role model - both for her attitudes and for her love.

Marian was my grandmother. It's difficult to express the grief at her passing as her loving charity and kindness towards others was a light that comforted and assured all those who knew her. She was always available to her family and ready to lend a helping hand where possible. She shared equally in the joys and sorrows of all her children no matter where they were and we were all strengthened by her presence and love...
Not a day has gone by that I have not thought of her and not a day will go by when I don't miss her. But I will be ever thankful that I was blessed to be one of her children and I will look forward to seeing her again in the place where no shadows fall...
