Pat and I shared the same birthday, March, 2nd and he sent me a bawdy, funny birthday gift. He was always ready with a laugh and his dry wit I will always remember. It's been four years and I remember him often and each memory is positive. He was an excellent lawyer but didn't let that define him.

Yes, Patrick Mahoney was a brilliant, successful attorney. He was also a brilliant, successful human being because his success never changed him. He always gave more than he received and he never forgot his clients, neighbors, family in a time of need. He would be there for you whether you were the mayor or the mailman; he respected everyone at every level.
I am not surprised that his guest book is flooded with responses, nor the range of responses from so many. This was his gift. He connected with you and you had a friend/mentor for life.
The world is a bit darker without him.

I am shocked and saddened to hear of Mr. Mahoney's passing. He was a kind, honest, giving, loving and generous man with a large dose of Irish humor. There was always a twinkle in his eye, a joke on his lips, and smile on his face. He was a huge comfort to me through some personal issues, and a blessing to my son. Bobby saw through Pat that no matter what the perceived obstacle, anything is possible. Pat met with Bobby when we came to Chicago and encouraged him to keep pushing forward.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Mahoney family. Pat left an amazing legacy that lives on through his children and grandchildren. heaven became a little brighter when God called him home. Rest in peace and thank you for everything you gave us in your time on earth.

Dear Mrs. Mahoney and children,
I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am to hear of Patrick's death. It brings everything back to my own experience of loss of parents and how hard it was for me to except. Thank God we have faith. Please be assured of my love and prayers for each of you. Remember to take your time with grief; it needs as much time as you need to give it. I do want to say one thing about loss, you will never get over it, you will learn to live with it, and it's a hard lesson in life to learn, because part of you has also died. Remember this, don't let people say you need to get on with your life or you just need to move ahead only you will know when the time to move on will be. Also if you need to go to the cemetery every day, its ok as well, sometimes people will say things like you need to stop going there all it does is makes you feel bad just remember, going to the cemetery is a time to grieve and heal, so go as often as you want. I went to my mom's every day for almost two years. Always know that life has changed not ended spent time praying over that, and also watch for those little signs that Patrick will let you know he is still with you. When you look into the rearview minor and see your dad looking at you through your eyes, the way you might say something or walk, or even take a drink of water, you will feel or even see your dad within the experience. God is good and He will never leave you alone, walk with God and St. Patrick and know that I am walking with you in your grief! May you know and fell the love of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Patrick, Benedict, Scolastica, Francis and Clare all around you, GOD IS GOOD! Brother Ed, OFM

Dear Mahoney Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Patrick was kind enough to attend my father's wake on March 10th and we talked about getting together. He was a giant of a man who helped so many people and organizations in a quiet, behind the scenes way. He never wanted any thanks or credit. He was one of my heroes. I will miss him dearly.

Tim and Family,
I'm very sorry for your loss. Mr. Mahoney was a highly influential adult in my early life. I have nothing but fond memories of fast and furious drives to/from CK Basketball games (much like Mr. Forberg used to drive) in your dad's all black Oldsmobiles. He was one of o kind. Post game stops at White Castles for a handful of sliders, only to be punished by the fury of locked in methane gas for the remainder of our commute home. I learned the art of kind cynicism from Mr. Mahoney. God rest his soul.

Pat will remain in my memory as being such a great guy with an engaging smile and with a great sense of humor. He loved his family, church, and friends and was always interested in hearing what was happening in others' lives. He unselfishly volunteered his time and gave me help and support when I needed it. I will never forget some of the great times we were blessed to share in far too few get-togethers! Go in the peace that you've earned my friend.

Dear Jeanne and Family,
Yoko and my prayers and thoughts are with you in this time of great loss and sorrow on the passing of this quintessential gentleman. As time moves on I will continue to keep Pat in my prayers and remember the many fun and very interesting times we shared. Now I have a smile on my face, joy in my heart and tears in my eyes as I think about the apartment Brothers Pat, Roy Brizz, Ron Kraft and I shared in the Summer of 1957 preparing to graduate from the U of I. We did graduate almost in spite of ourselves and won the summer softball championship. We knew how to party, to laugh until it hurt, to study and go to class almost without sleep. As time goes on I pray that you will remember all the joys you shared with Pat and sorrow will turn to joy.
God bless all of you,
Leo Lawless
