Ruth Oltman Obituary

Ruth Lorraine Oltman (Simmons) entered heaven on Sunday, February 22nd. Ruth was born to Tom Simmons and Stella Simmons in Gilman, Illinois on October 30, 1920. She was married to Granville J. Oltman. Together they raised a family of three children, Judith (David) Clark, Charlotte, North Carolina; Karen Stivers, Normal, Illinois, and John Oltman, Hudson, Illinois. The family lived in Crete, Illinois where Ruth led an active life in her church and community. Her life was filled with many friends as she reached out to everyone with kindness and humor. Through the years, Ruth developed a deep relationship with her Lord Jesus Christ and shared Him and His love with all. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known for her efforts to make sure that everyone she knew received a birthday card on their birthday. Another passion that she was noted for was her undying support and love for the Chicago Cubs. After living in Crete for most of her life, Ruth moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2010 to be near family. She resided at Carmel Hills Christian Retirement Center until her death. She was loved and enjoyed by the members of her community there. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two grandsons, Joshua Oltman and Jonathan Clark, and son in law, Richard Stivers. Those left to celebrate her life are six grandchildren: John D. (Phyllis Cannella) Clark, Jenna (Nathan) Rupp, Meghan (James) Shipes, Christopher (Melissa) Chester, Michael Oltman, and Matthew (Stephanie) Oltman. Four great-grandchildren: Autumn, Lauren and Hannah Shipes, and Garrett Watkins. She is loved by her sister, Cleo Warrick, several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and as many friends as one could acquire in 94 years of life. Now she is with her Lord and Savior. Ruth will be interred in Illinois. Visitation will be held at Crete Funeral Home in Crete, 1182 Main Street, Crete, Illinois on Thursday, February 26 from 4PM to 7PM. Services in celebration of her life will be held on Friday, lying in state from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, Crete, Illinois. Interment at Skyline Memorial Park, Monee, Illinois. A celebration of her life will also be held at Carmel Hills Retirement Home where Ruth spent her final years at a later date in Charlotte, NC. Memorials may be given to Illinois Lutheran High School, Trinity Lutheran Church in Crete, Illinois, Lions of Illinois Foundation and Research Center, or to Carmel Hills Retirement Home in Charlotte North Carolina.
