I knew Steve from the Old Orland Park Chess Club back in the late 1980s. He was National Master of tremendous talent and ability. Steve was by far the strongest player at the club, but never refused to play anyone based on their rating. We learned a lot from him and I admired his skill and competitive spirit. May his memory be eternal!

I knew Steve from competitive USCF chess in the 70's. I played his brother Jeff
in 1967. I played Steve once in May 1973, Romeoville Tornado. We both
had won our previous 3 games. He was rated 2314 and I was 1809. I had
a good game but lost with a blunder. I did not know Steve personally, but
I enjoyed the tournament chess game I had with him.

I have many fond memories competing with, and going to tournaments with Steve back in the 70's & 80's. He was a superstar in the south suburbs. And what a character!

Steve was my chess opponent in 1978 in South Carolina and in 2003 in Illinois. Also in 1982 I spoke with him while he was playing in an international tournament in Michigan He was a very nice man.
