Thomas Francis Nehring, 58, of Frankfort, IL, suddenly on Jan. 20, 2012, while in Albuquerque, NM. A nationally respected, passionate voice for Catholic healthcare, Tom was in service as Chief Mission Services Officer for Provena Health-Resurrection Health Care at the time of his passing. Tom was born in Gary, IN, to Thomas E. (deceased) and Nora Nehring, now of Crown Point, IN. He graduated from Andrean High School, Merrillville, IN, and pursued a Bachelor of Arts from Aquinas College, Grand Rapids, MI, a Masters in Religious Education at Loyola University, Chicago, and a Masters in Administration from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN. Ever enthusiastic to combine his love of teaching with that of his Faith, Tom taught at Regina High School, Detroit, MI and served as Director of Religious Education at St. Philomena Parish in Detroit, and at Immaculate Conception Parish in Elmhurst, IL. Following careers in the Office of Ministry Formation with the Diocese of Joliet, IL, and as Vice President, Mission Integration and Transformation Resources at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, Wheaton, IL, Tom joined Provena Health in 2002, serving as System Senior Vice President, Mission Services. Using exceptional leadership, intelligence, creativity and an endearing sense of humor appreciated by colleagues and friends alike, Tom advanced Catholic health ministry as special calling to be cherished, celebrated and undertaken with the highest levels of excellence and compassion. Tom was a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE); the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA), Leadership Formation Committee; Chairperson of Mission Leaders' Forum, Illinois Catholic Health Association (ICHA); Chairperson, Board of Directors, Canticle Ministries, Inc., Wheaton, IL, Chairperson, Board of Directors, Will-Grundy Medical Clinic, Joliet, IL and a member, Advisory Board, The Portiuncula Center for Prayer, Frankfort, IL. He is preceded in death by his grandparents George and Magdalena Nehring and Frank and Ethel Morrow. In addition to his mother, Tom is survived by his life-partner Randle England and Buddy the chocolate lab of Frankfort, IL; aunt, Margaret (Jim) Krantz, Merriville, IN and Helen (George, deceased) Nehring, Anaheim, CA.
