Wendy Allen-Ayres Obituary
iconiconWendy lived in Hyde Park for many years, and was active in the antiwar movement and the movement for the legalization of marijuana, as well as the Youth International Party (YIPpies.) In the latter capacity, she appears in Abbie Hoffman's memoirs of organizing in New York. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hyde Park Co-operative Grocery Market. She served in the Air Force during the Korean War. She was also involved with Vietnam Veterans Against the War, and testified in the Gainesville 8 trial after the 1972 Republican convention attempted frame-up of organizers. She was also active in the Chicago alternative political organization IVI-IPO (Independent Voters of Illinois/ Independent Precinct Organization.) Wendy also studied anthropology and knew Margaret Meade. She is survived by two daughters. Private services were held. Memorial contributions may be made to: Iraq Veterans Against the War, P.O.
