John Edward Balles, 87, of Chicago, IL, passed away at home on August 4, 2011. United States Marine Corps Staff Sergeant (World War II Veteran serving in China). Beloved husband of Verna Balles who predeceased him on April 30, 1987. They were married for 40 years. Loving father of Lorraine (John) Osborn, Diane (Ken) Fraser, Daniel (Laura) and the late David Balles; fond grandfather of Andrew, Heather, Sidney, Camryn, Danielle, Tyler, Jillian and Natalie; great-grandfather of Frederick, Harry, Endlessette and John. John was preceded in death last year by his sister, Margaret Lynch. Born on July 6, 1924 in Pittston, PA to John Sr. and Nancy Balles, John spent his early years in New Jersey. He moved to Chicago in his late teens where he lived the rest of his life. Professionally, John was a painter, decorator, and wood-finisher. But the joys of his life were his family, good friends, good food and dancing. He was an admired dancer at many clubs where he moved to the rhythm of the music, impressing the crowd with his energy and agility. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, especially his dear friend, Lena Sepe. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 7 at Cumberland Chapels , 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge. Funeral Service will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, August 8 at Cumberland Chapels and proceed to St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 4646 N. Austin Ave., Chicago for Mass 10 a.m. . Interment private at Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Catholic Charities, 721 N.
