Obituary Condolences

Henry X Arenberg, Community Leader and Chronicler, born March 1, 1929, died peacefully on Nov. 5, 2011 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Joan; daughters Nancy (Glenn Harris) and Polly (Michael Siou); his one and only favorite grandson Julien X Lucca Siou and his sisters; Ann Gips and Jane Eiseman. Henry took great pride in being a life long citizen of Highland Park, a founder and past president of the Highland Park Historical Society, a fisherman of great skill, an elected representative to the Deerfield Township Board, a brilliant photographer, the most decorated Eagle Scout in the Northern Illinois Council and a talented cartoonist. Friends remember him as a witty, satirical writer and caricaturist whose frequent contributions to local media were legendary. The book that he co-authored Highland Park, American Suburb at its Best provided a detailed architectural and historical survey of the community that he called home for more than 80 years. He followed that book up with Highland Park by Foot or Frame: An Architectural and Historical Odyssey. A graduate of Lake Forest College, Henry graduated from Highland Park High School. A private service will be held at the chapel at Rosehill Cemetery. Donations can be made to Lake County Pads (www.lakecountypads.org) or National Adoption Foundation (www.nafadopt.org) For further information, contact Chicago Jewish Funerals.
