Donald W. Ruffolo Obituary
Donald W. Ruffolo, 80, of Highwood, IL, died at his home February 13, 2014. Don was born in Highland Park Hospital and was raised in Highwood. He was a graduate of Oak Terrace School where, at the age of 14, he met his future wife, Glenna Engquist. Don served as an apprentice butcher with the National Tea Co. and then worked with Holsum Bakers. In 1969 Don bought Janowitz Finest Foods in Lake Forest calling it Don's Janowitz Finest Foods. In 1975, he bought and moved the business to the former A & P location on Western Avenue and called the new store Don's Finest Foods. He was a Past President of both the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Rotary Club and the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce and a Sponsor of Heifer International. Don and his late wife, Glenna, were generous benefactors of many Lake Forest groups and organizations for many years. Devoted husband of the late Glenna K. Ruffolo (2011); Loving father of Ron (Erin), Don (Nicky), and John Ruffolo, Bonnie (Ralph) Cassano, Dorie (Adam) Fox, Maryann Healy and the late William and Thomas Ruffolo. Beloved grandfather of 15, great grandfather of 6 and a loving and caring Foster Parent. Dear son of the late Floyd and Helen Ruffolo. Fond brother of Richard (the late Gerri) Ruffolo and the late Lila (the late Fred) Thomas. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 18th at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest.
