Yusooff Tolosa Allian M.D. Obituary
Allian, MD, Yusooff Tolosa Surrounded by his family, Yusooff Tolosa Allian, MD, age 70, passed away on March 27, 2014 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was the beloved first son of Mercedes Tolosa and Nassal Allian, Sr. and was born on July 22, 1943 in Siasisulu, Philippines. Upon graduating from Notre Dame Academy Jolosul at the age of 14 years, he continued his premedical studies at Silliman University, Dumaquete City, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Subsequent to his first marriage to his medical school classmate Marina Uriarte in 1966 and the birth of his first daughter, Mernalyn in 1967, he graduated from Far Eastern University School of Medicine, Manila Philippines, where he received honors in general surgery. Immediately following his graduation, he immigrated to the United States to begin a rotating internship at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore where his first son, Jonas, was born in 1970. He completed a surgery internship at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD and a general surgery residency at Youngstown Hospital in Youngstown, OH where both Yusoff, Jr. and Marybeth were born in 1972 and 1973. He went on to complete a cardiothoracic surgical fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. After practicing briefly in New Jersey, he moved his family to the northern suburbs of Chicago where he practiced at five area hospitals for 35 years as a double board certified general and thoracic surgeon. He is best remembered as a loving and dedicated father and grandfather, a talented surgeon who helped thousands of patients, and a role model for both his family and community. For all of his life, he followed the faith of his beloved mother and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. His love and generous spirit were gifts bestowed upon his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed. Surviving are his father, Nassal Allian, Sr. of Zamboanga, Philippines; his wife, Jean M. Allian of Gurnee; 4 children, Mernalyn Griffin of Gainesville, FL, Jonas Joseph Allian of Glenview, IL, Yusoff Uriarte Allian (Christina) of South Bound Brook, NJ, and Marybeth Allian Sauer (William) of Denver, CO. Surviving grandchildren include John Robert Semons of Gurnee, IL, Sheldon Keavon Griffin, Powell William Griffin, and Tatianna Breann Griffin of Gainesville, FL, Sara Rose Allian and Kate Elizabeth Allian of South Bound Brook, NJ, Peter Joseph Sauer and Katherine Marie Sauer of Denver, CO; 1 great-grandchild, Jay Semons; 7 brothers, 1 sister; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mercedes Tolosa Allian and his brother, Nassal Allian, Jr. A visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) in Libertyville. Interment will be in the Philippines. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the .
