John Benz Obituary
icon John Eugene Benz, 89 years, old, of Palm Beach, FL and formerly of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in the company of his loving family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara McKenzie Benz. A devoted husband, father, and loving "Bapa", Mr. Benz is survived by six children, John E. Benz, III (Pamela) of Winnetka, IL, Robert M. Benz (Patti, deceased) of Friday Harbor, WA, Ginny Benz Parker (Thomas) of Palm Beach, FL, Nancy Benz Bitter (Ward) of New York, NY, Barbara Benz Duvnjak (Karlo) of Manhasset, NY, and Thomas J. Benz (Suzanne) of Jupiter, FL; twenty-four grandchildren, John Benz (Mara) and Katie Shectman (Jonathan), Justin, Christopher, and Allison Benz, Kate Parker Spencer (Paul), Julie, and Tommy Parker, Kristen Jellison (Andrew), Megan Griffith (Tyler), Ward Bitter (Jenny), and Matthew, Billy, and Jimmy Bitter, Annie, Katherine, Johnny, Bobby, Maggie, and Mary Duvnjak, and Thomas, Phillip, McKenzie, and Megan Benz; and eleven great grandchildren, Oliver and Russell Shectman, Whitney, Patsy, and Virginia Jellison, Charlie, Paige, and Caroline Griffith, Mimi and Cece Bitter, and Maggie Spencer. Born in Chicago, IL, he was a son of John E. and Marie Happel Benz and a proud veteran of WW II, having served in the US Navy. Following the war, Mr. Benz returned to Chicago where he became a prominent Real Estate Developer. The Benz family moved to Palm Beach in 1969. He was a man of strong faith and a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Palm Beach. He deeply loved his family; remained passionate about real estate, was an avid golfer; and enjoyed memberships at the Bob O' Link Golf Club in Highland Park, IL, the Jupiter Hills Club, the Everglades Club of Palm Beach, the Sailfish Club of Florida, and the Beach Club. "Our loving Father, our lifelong friend, our love for you Dad will never end." A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Palm Beach, FL with the entombment to follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach, FL.
