Arthur Swanson Jr. Obituary
Arthur W. Swanson, Jr. of Elburn passed away at his home on Sunday, May 4, 2014. He was born April 18, 1937 in Melrose Park, IL, the son of Arthur Sr. and Harriet (Peyson) Swanson. Arthur attended Proviso High School in Maywood, IL and graduated in 1955. Soon after high school, he served in the National Guard. Arthur had a long career at Northern Illinois Gas Company, where he met his wife, Janet McCormick. Art and Janet raised their three children in Glen Ellyn and St. Charles. Art retired from Northern Illinois Gas Company after 39 years of service. He was a member of Christ Community Church in St. Charles. He served in men's ministry leading a men's bible study and also volunteered with the creative arts technical team during weekend church services. He enjoyed sharing his love for the Lord. Arthur earned his Private Pilot license in 1966. He had a passion for flying and he loved to fish. He and his family spent many summers in Ontario, Canada fishing on Wabaskang Lake. Art is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet; his three children, Karen (Mike) O'Shaughnessy of Phoenix, AZ; Valerie (Adam) Rosenzweig of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Douglas (Laurie) Swanson of North Aurora; five grandchildren, Kaitlin, Kelly, Kayla and Kara O'Shaughnessy; Max Rosenzweig; and his sister, Pat Kirschbaum. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Sr. and Harriet; and his sister, Jeanne Pinard. Arthur was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was a kind, gentle man who will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held Friday, May 9, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Yurs Funeral Home of Geneva, 1771 W. State St., Geneva. Funeral services will be the following morning, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Yurs Funeral Home of Geneva with burial following at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace. In lieu of flowers, Art's family prefers donations be made to the in his name (www.donate.heart.org).
