George "Tom" Thomas Elliott Commander, USN (retired), 97, long-time resident of Deerfield, passed away June 20, 2014. Survived by devoted children: Jean Elliott (Jeff Weiner); Constance (John) Palermo; Scott Elliott (Cynthia Cheski); Nancy (Christopher) Curtis: by loving grandchildren, Chester and Faith Curtis. Predeceased by beloved wife, Dorothy Fuller Elliott; parents, Charles Scott Elliott & Rachel Adams Elliott; 9 older siblings & their spouses. Born December 26, 1916, Union Star, MO. Graduated Union Star Consolidated High School, 1934 & enlisted in US Navy. Received fleet appointment to US Naval Academy, graduated 1940. WWII service on USS Enterprise (CV-6) & other ships. Retired USN, 1960. A civilian engineer with Fansteel, Marathon Electric, John Deere, & Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago, IL; retired 1981. Long-time member, lay reader & former warden of St. Gregory's Episcopal Church, Deerfield, IL; long-time member & international President of Steam Automobile Club of America. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, 2:00 pm with inurnment to follow at St. Gregory's, 815 Wilmot Rd., Deerfield, IL 60015.
