Ruth Warren Obituary
Ruth G. Warren, 87, passed away peacefully in Geneva, Illinois, on July 17th, 2014. The only child of Nels and Lillian (Tahtinen) Gustafson, Ruth was born on April 20th, 1927. Ruth graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago early in 1945 and enrolled in the Cook County School of Nursing. She graduated as a registered nurse three years later, passed her licensing exam, and worked as a hospital, private-duty, and physicians' office nurse until 1956. In October 1954, Ruth met Harold E. Warren, who for 32 years along with his brother Donald owned Warren Brothers Construction Company, which was well-known and respected throughout the Fox Valley area. Ruth and Harold were married on June 4th, 1955, in Elmwood Park. They lived in Elmhurst for three years and then spent the rest of their lives living in the house that Warren Brothers built in St. Charles. In addition to raising their three children, Ruth was an active volunteer in her family's extracurricular school activities. She also loyally supported Harold's volunteer work in the Exchange Club, for which Harold served as National President in 1983 - 84. Harold and Ruth were also active members of the Congregational United Church of Christ in St. Charles. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years and her parents. Survivors include daughters Mary-Louise (Roger) Pick and Carol (Jeffrey) Gering; son Scot; grandchildren Randall (Amanda) Pick, Sarah (Ivan) Mendez, Meagan Pick, and Allison, Stephanie, and Christopher Gering; and great-grandson Norman Mendez. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 21st, at Yurs Funeral Home, 405 East Main Street (corner of Rt. 25 and Rt. 64) in St. Charles. Ruth's funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 22nd, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 40W451 Fox Mill Boulevard in St. Charles. A private burial will be held Tuesday afternoon at the Union Cemetery in St. Charles. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Congregational United Church of Christ of St. Charles, the Exchange Club of Tri-Cities Foundation, and the National Exchange Club Foundation.
