HARRY D. LAVERY Obituary
Harry D. Lavery, 87, a Chicago attorney and former Illinois State Representative, died after a long illness March 14th at his son's home in Boulder, CO. Mr. Lavery served in the U.S. Army, 1944-1946, and was seriously wounded during the invasion of Normandy in June 1944. He began practicing law in Chicago in 1948 and served as an Illinois State Representative from Chicago's north side from 1955-56. He later joined the Chicago law firm of Berger, Newmark and Fenchel where he became a partner and worked until his retirement in 1997 when he moved to Whispering Sands, Sarasota, FL. Born in Jacksonville, IL, December 8, 1922, Mr. Lavery was the son of Harry Lavery, Sr. and Ruth Kingsley Lavery. He graduated from Routt Catholic High School in 1940, the University of Notre Dame Cum Laude in 1944, and Columbia University Law School in 1948. While in High School, he worked as a newspaper carrier for the Jacksonville Journal Courier newspaper. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Kalahar Lavery; his daughter, Lisa Marie Lavery; his first wife, Doris Marie Danner, and his sister Rose Clair Lavery. He is survived by his son, Michael David Lavery of Boulder, CO, Michael's former wife, Donna Larner Lavery, their two children, Christian David Lavery and Chelsea Larner; and his daughter, Susan Lavery Rodgers of Fairfax, VA, her husband John Rodgers, and their two children Lauren Maria Kalpokas Rodgers, and Killian Lavery Rodgers. He is also survived by his former wife Ruth Aten of Knoxville, and stepson, Tom Aten of Boulder; his brother John Lavery of Tampa, FL, and his sister, Mary Kocher, of Schererville, IN. Mr. Lavery was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Sarasota, FL where a Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m., March 26, 5394 Midnight Pass Road, Sarasota, FL 34242. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trail Ridge Dr. East, Lafayette, CO, 80026. M. P. Murphy & Associates Funeral Directors of Boulder is handling arrangements.
